A universal joint (U-joint) is a cross-shaped joint that transmits rotation between two shafts set at an angle.

Its cross and bearings let the shafts turn together while their angle changes, allowing a propeller shaft to drive the axle as the suspension moves.

Universal joints are used on the propeller shaft and steering shafts. The correct joint matches the shaft size and yoke.
