About this part
A brake shoe is the curved friction part that presses outward against a brake drum to slow a wheel.
When the brakes are applied, the shoes expand against the inside of the rotating drum and friction slows the wheel; common on the drive and trailer axles of trucks.
Brake shoes are fitted inside drum brakes. Because braking is safety critical, shoes are checked on schedule and replaced by axle set by a qualified technician.
