A brake pad is the friction part that presses against the brake disc to slow a wheel.

When the brakes are applied, the pad clamps the spinning disc and friction converts motion into heat; commercial vehicle pads handle high loads and temperatures.

Brake pads are fitted in disc brakes at the wheels. Because braking is safety critical, pads are checked on schedule and replaced by axle set by a qualified technician.
