The cooling system keeps a commercial vehicle engine within its correct operating temperature by carrying away the large amount of heat that combustion produces. Coolant is pumped by the water pump through passages in the engine block, where it absorbs heat, then to the radiator, where airflow, helped by the cooling fan, dissipates that heat.
