Tilting cab pumps provide the hydraulic pressure that powers the cab tilt system on a cab-over commercial vehicle. The pump draws fluid from a reservoir and pressurises it to operate the tilt cylinders that raise and lower the cab. Pumps may be manual, electric, or air-powered.

When the operator activates the tilt control, the pump pulls fluid from the reservoir, pressurises it, and sends it through a control valve to the tilt cylinders, which extend or retract to move the cab. The control valve sets the direction, raising or lowering the cab, and the pump runs until the cab reaches the wanted position.

Pumps wear at their seals and internal parts and can lose the ability to build pressure. Signs include the cab tilting slowly or not at all, the pump failing to build pressure, fluid leaks, and a low reservoir level. As part of a system that lifts a heavy cab, a pump that will not perform is inspected and serviced or replaced, and the fluid level checked, following the manufacturer guidance.

The correct pump depends on the vehicle model, the tilt system, and the pump type, whether manual, electric, or air. Confirm the part against the vehicle specification before fitting.
