Una pastiglia freno è la parte d'attrito che preme contro il disco per rallentare una ruota.
In frenata la pastiglia stringe il disco in rotazione e l'attrito converte il moto in calore; le pastiglie dei veicoli commerciali sopportano carichi e temperature elevati.
Le pastiglie sono montate nei freni a disco alle ruote. Poiché la frenata è critica per la sicurezza, si controllano a scadenza e si sostituiscono per assale da un tecnico qualificato.
