Un disco freno è il disco metallico su cui le pastiglie si serrano per rallentare la ruota.
Quando le pastiglie premono sul disco in rotazione, l'attrito converte il moto del veicolo in calore, che il disco dissipa; i dischi dei veicoli commerciali sono grandi e resistenti al calore per carichi elevati e frenate ripetute.
Montato alla ruota come parte di un freno a disco. Poiché la frenata è critica per la sicurezza, dischi e pastiglie si ispezionano a scadenza e si sostituiscono per assale da un tecnico qualificato.
