A propeller shaft support, also called a center or carrier bearing, holds the middle of a multi-piece propeller shaft and lets it rotate smoothly. On vehicles with a long driveline split into two or more sections, this support steadies the shaft and isolates vibration from the body.

The support is a bearing held in a rubber cushion that mounts to a frame crossmember. It carries the shaft between its sections, allowing it to spin freely while the rubber absorbs vibration and allows slight movement. This keeps the long driveline aligned and running smoothly under load.

The rubber cushion can crack or perish from heat, road salt, and age, and the bearing itself wears with high mileage. Signs include vibration, a whine, grind, or clunk from under the vehicle that changes with speed, and hesitation when accelerating. A worn support lets the shaft wobble, which can damage the universal joints and other driveline parts, so it should be inspected and replaced when symptoms appear.

The correct support depends on the vehicle model, the propeller shaft, and the mounting position. Confirm the part against the vehicle specification before fitting.
