Una pastilla de freno es la pieza de fricción que presiona contra el disco para frenar una rueda.
Al frenar, la pastilla aprieta el disco en giro y la fricción convierte el movimiento en calor; las pastillas de vehículo comercial soportan altas cargas y temperaturas.
Las pastillas van en los frenos de disco de las ruedas. Como la frenada es crítica para la seguridad, se revisan según el plan y se sustituyen por eje por un técnico cualificado.
