Ölmessstab

A dipstick is the marked rod used to check the level of oil or another fluid.

Pulled out and read against its marks, it shows whether the level is between minimum and maximum so the fluid can be topped up in time.

Dipsticks are used on the engine, gearbox, and some other units. The correct dipstick matches the unit, and regular checks help prevent damage.
